In a video on last weekend's box office, OMB Reviews opened up: "The Little Mermaid is down 58% domestically and still doing next to nothing internationally." And let's just say the film wasn't basically just a flop but will also be a massive flop for Disney and ultimately could become one of the worst-performing films in its entire history."
He argues, "Of course, this is all because a lot of people fail when they look at the box office, especially at the comparisons."Aladdinto remember that ticket prices in 2019 were very different than today. And of course the inflation rate has changed as well, as everyone likes to hear and wants to be inspired by again and again.”

Laut The-Numbers,The little mermaidBox office sales in domestic theaters for the second weekend fell 58% to just $40.6 million. Its three-day opening weekend, Memorial Day Weekend, grossed $95.5 million. Total domestic box office takings are currently $186.2 million.
The little mermaidhas increased its international total byDeadline Reportingit grossed $42.3 million in its second weekend. The film grossed just $68.3 million internationally in its opening weekend. Total international box office receipts are $140.5 million.
The film's worldwide gross is $326.7 million. It reportedly had a production budget of $250 million. That means the film is still in the red, and as OMB Reviews notes, it doesn't look like it's going black any time soon.

When comparing the film withAladdin, which opened in theaters on Memorial Day weekend in 2019, OMB Reviews tells OMB Reviews, "Based on tracking and percentage, I'm guessing that this movie could make maybe $300 million domestically." Maybe. We still have to wait and see if that will happen at all.”
"But ultimately, $300 million domestically might sound decent on paper, especially when you compare it to a movie likefast x,But look at the international number. TheAladdinThe film grossed $788 million internationally in 2019," he continued.

"Until nowThe little mermaidonly made $140 [million] and that means domestically best case maybe $300, $350 million, best case scenario,” analyzed OMB Reviews. You're looking at an international best-case scenario of $250 [million US dollars]. Is that generous I think?”
“You add up these numbers. That doesn't get you to $625 million, which is the break-even point. So, yeah, overall it's not looking goodThe little mermaidin the future,” he explained.

Later in the video, OMB Reviews shared their breakdown of the film and its box office results. First, he explained his process: "If maybe you've never followed my chart, years ago I was able to break down that most films, most films, either take 70% of their total box office within the first two weeks or they don't." have really strong legs. If they have a really strong box office, they will generate half of their total box office in the first two weeks. Of course there are exceptions to this, but on average the vast majority of films are somewhere between 70% and 50%.”
"So let's say that $326 million is 70% of the total box office for The Little Mermaid. That means the end result - and that's a very likely scenario for this film - would be $466 million worldwide," he explains.

"Best case scenario so let's say it doubles the money, best case scenario it would be $650 million," he continued. "This is a best-case scenario. We can already see in our legs that this film doesn't last to this extent. It is not doubling or doubling what has been achieved so far. But even if it did, $650 million would be a minimal gain and, according to some metrics, a financial loss. It really depends on whether your breakeven is 2.5x or 3x budget.”
"So even if it were 'making money,' it still wouldn't be nearly enough to make up any discrepancies either way because it would be such a minimal win that it actually didn't mean that much." It still wouldn't be a financial loss,” explained OMB Reviews.

He then shared his prediction of how much the film will gross worldwide: "More likely, I'd say somewhere in the region of $500 million is probably what this film can expect, especially based on the declines that I think we're seeing." At best, the average is actually around $550 million to $560 million."
"What does that mean given the massive budget of $250 million? That means I'm currently assuming the film will lose around $100 million but could gross up to $17 million. Again, a multiplier of 2.5 is used. You could obviously imagine this movie still losing money if it had a 3x multiplier," explained OMB Reviews.
"On average, I expect this film to lose between $50 million and $100 million, and that's the minimum," he explained.
